Transitioning Into A Cirrus

Cirrus Transition Training

Cirrus has recognized the need to come up with a standardized training program to ensure the successful and safe training of pilots for the Technologically Advanced Aircraft (TAA). As such, they have created the Cirrus Standard Instructor Program (CSIP) to properly train instructors in the nuances of flying their planes.

Transition training courses are taught at the factory but also at FBOs around the country. Many of the organizations listed with FlyACirrus.com will have CSIP qualified instructors on staff and should trumpet this from their information page. These courses are designed to acclimate pilots to the TAA environment of the Cirrus SR2x aircraft and its cockpit. A combination of ground and flight lessons, the training provides a complete introduction to both the Cirrus aircraft, and the advanced avionics it offers. The training will utilize realistic scenario based training including system failures and en-route aeronautical decision making.

In order to get the most out of your transition training, we at FlyACirrus.com recommend that you utilize online resources, many shown below, to assist you in preparing for this new world of flying.

  • Cirrus Design website: POHs available online in electronic format
  • Garmin avionics website: Computer-based simulation for GNS 430s & sample syllabus to train by
  • COPA: Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association. Lots of great info available before and after you join.
  • The AOPA and ASF have a comprehensive safety report that plays up the need for proper training in order to fly Technologically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) like the Cirrus SR series. You can find more about it in their TAA Special Report on TAA. They also have available a 15 minute lesson on the GNS430 that prospective pilots might find interesting.
